She has accumulated over a decade of clinical experience working with individuals with varying needs across the lifespan.

Over the years, Shi Yun has worked across a spectrum of clinical settings – from public hospitals including Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and National University Hospital(NUH), to the government and community mental health settings. In her therapeutic practice, Shi Yun manages a broad range of mental health concerns including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress, work-related stress and burnout, relationship- or adjustment-related challenges. Shi Yun specialises in child and adolescent mental health, and has a special interest in working with clients who have experienced trauma or adverse life events. She has extensive experience working with children, youths and adults who struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Trauma, and is passionate about journeying with these individuals to facilitate healing and foster personal growth and resilience.

Shi Yun also has a strong clinical interest in women’s mental health and believes in creating more supportive spaces for women. Having personally navigated pregnancy losses, she is particularly passionate about supporting women through fertility challenges, pregnancy losses and reproductive trauma. Apart from her clinical expertise, she brings to sessions a genuine, lived understanding of the grief and complex emotions that comes with this unique type of loss. As a mother, she also understands firsthand the challenges that many mothers face and is a strong advocate for maternal mental health. She is currently pursuing certification with the Postpartum Support International to become a perinatal mental health specialist. Shi Yun is also trained in the Incredible Years evidence-based parenting program and is skilled in tailoring parenting strategies to the unique needs of each family.

Shi Yun believes it takes courage for one to reach out for professional support. With gentle compassion and authenticity, she seeks to provide a warm, empathetic and non-judgemental space where clients feel safe to express and explore their thoughts and feelings. She values building a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship with each client whereby individuals feel valued, heard and understood. She also believes in recognising and drawing on each client’s strengths and values while journeying with them to move towards their therapeutic goals. Understanding that the needs of each individual are unique, Shi Yun draws from a range of evidence-based modalities to tailor each therapeutic journey to meet her clients’ needs. These approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT),Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Mindfulness-based and Compassion-focused approaches.

These include assessing for cognitive abilities (i.e. IQ test), adaptive functioning behaviours (i.e. special school placements) and attention issues (i.e. ADHD).

Apart from her clinical practice, Shi Yun is also passionate about providing clinical supervision to fellow mental health professionals. She has served as the clinical supervisor to the associate psychologists at KTPH, and has conducted talks, trainings and workshops on mental health related topics to medical doctors and professionals from social service agencies.
